Complete Your Smile with Dental Crowns
Dr. Steven Hochfelder uses dental crowns in several applications at his Lake Mary practice. Crowns are tooth-shaped caps that fit over a tooth compromised by damage or decay. They can also be used to restore dental implants. Crowns are customized to match the shape and color of your surrounding teeth, and they can be made from a wide range of materials to meet your needs and goals. As with all cosmetic and restorative procedures, Dr. Hochfelder provides personalized treatment and natural-looking results. If you have severely damaged teeth and are looking to restore your smile, schedule an appointment with Dr. Hochfelder today.
Placing Dental Crowns
Before placing a crown, Dr. Hochfelder will numb your tooth and the surrounding gum tissue. Then he will then treat the tooth, if needed, and reshape the existing tooth structure to make room for the crown. He will take impressions of your tooth and send them to a dental lab where your crowns will be custom fabricated to fit your tooth and match the color and shape of your surrounding teeth. Dr. Hochfelder has been working with the same highly regarded dental labs for 27 years to ensure that you receive the highest quality restorations possible. Fabricating the crown takes about two weeks. While you are waiting for your crown, the dentist will provide you with a temporary crown. When the restoration is finished, you will return for your second appointment. Dr. Hochfelder will check the fit and secure the permanent crown over your tooth.
Benefits of Crowns
Crowns are incredibly versatile dental restorations, and they can be used in a broad range of applications, including:
- Covering up structural imperfections like chips or cracks
- Holding together broken or severely cracked teeth
- Strengthening weakened or damaged teeth
- Restoring a tooth following a root canal
- Topping a dental implant
- Securing a dental bridge
- Covering up a large filling
Types of Crowns
Crowns can be made from several types of material including porcelain, zirconia, e.max® ceramic, metal, and porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain is the most widely used material because of its affordability and lifelike appearance. Zirconia is a revolutionary substance that also matches the color and shape of teeth while providing outstanding strength and durability. e.max® is made of pressed ceramic and offers a lifelike appearance that is unmatched by other dental materials. Metal crowns are the most durable; however, they will not match the color of your natural teeth. Porcelain fused to metal crowns are also available. Dr. Hochfelder will work closely with you to help you choose the right material for your needs. Typically, when he is crowning front teeth, he will use all-porcelain restorations to give you a beautiful, lifelike smile.
